Abstract: From the industrial era to the present day, the relationships woven between users and design projects have undergone successive transformations. Previously nonexistent or peripheral to project logic, users have now assumed central roles, especially after the rise of User Experience (UX) approaches. The spread of the concept and practices of UX has led to new specialties, such as User Experience Research, an area within companies that systematically investigates the users’ subjective and objective aspects to guide the decision-making of design teams throughout their development. UX Research is a flourishing field growing exponentially, boosting the hiring of specialized professionals, and the UX researchers. However, being a recent area, it is still establishing its identity. Its prematurity and rapid expansion result in challenges and obstacles in the systematic process of user experience research, belonging to the professional journey of the researchers. In this context, the present study aimed to propose a framework that presents a set of guidelines focused on facilitating the systematic process of UX Research. This study, with a qualitative approach, was classified as descriptive-exploratory. For data collection, participant observations, documentary research, including job vacancy advertisements, specialized books and websites, podcasts with interviews with specialists, and interviews with professionals in the field were conducted. The organization, categorization, interpretation, and inference of the collected data were supported by the Content Analysis approach, by Bardin (2016). The study resulted in the description of the modus operandi of UX research within companies, from start to finish, outlining a visual scheme to represent the standard stages of the systematic process, as well as the assignments and responsibilities of the researcher during their work journey. Moreover, it identified the main problems, difficulties, and challenges UX researchers face in their daily work, at each stage of the process, portrayed and organized in a user journey map. Finally, it explored recommendations, tactics, and best practices to support a set of guidelines, presented in the form of a framework, seeking to mitigate the challenges and adversities researchers face throughout the UX research process, aiming to make the work of UX researchers easier and more efficient. By addressing the stages of the systematic process, the challenges of UX Research professionals, and possible solutions, it is concluded that the study offered theoretical and practical contributions to user experience research. The proposed framework sought to mitigate difficulties, promote efficiency and guide the journey of UX researchers. It not only directs UX research practices but also strengthens the culture of UX Research in companies, consolidating scattered practices and theories. Thus, it contributed to establishing the identity of the UX Research field.
