Abstract: Urban green spaces represent areas that provide a positive and restorative experience for the individuals who frequent them. Urban squares assume an essential role, as places for leisure, social gatherings and cultural expression. Biophilia, a concept that denotes the inherent tendency of human beings to connect with nature, is a proposal to analyze the socio-spatial dynamics of the Square Governador Celso Ramos in Florianópolis, through the interaction of users with its physical, environmental and usage dimensions. The methodological approach covers different methods of surveying the physical environment, environmental aspects, usage behaviors and assessment of the presence of biophilia. Validation of the method involved spatial verification of collection points, observation time and recording times. The surveys were conducted over a period of seven days and at three different time intervals, with the results summarized in maps that represent the physical configuration of the square and the behavioral patterns of its visitors. The results reveal that the Square Governador Celso Ramos predominantly functions as a transit point, influencing peripheral areas, and has some internal routes marked as shortcuts. Adults make up the majority of visitors, with no specific time preference. After circulation, the observation activity in areas with benches shaded by the treetops was the most expressive. Specific events, such as the organic fair held on Fridays, energize the environment, attracting visitors and encouraging social interaction; The presence of vegetation with flowers contributes to the attractiveness of the square, however, the occurrence of pests, such as snails and rodents, discourages users from staying. The predominance of exotic plant species proves to be harmful to local biodiversity, indicating the need to implement public policies aimed at the introduction of native vegetation. The biophilia analysis reveals that the square, in addition to its conventional function, assumes the status of a biophilic environment, connecting urban inhabitants to nature.
