Abstract: The arrival of a child in the family is a moment of great importance and implies the arrival of co-parenting. Coparenting is defined by the joint involvement of parents in child care. In addition to raising children, the demands of personal, marital and professional life create challenges and overloads for parents, which can lead to increased psychological distress and difficulties in the coparenting relationship. Mental health can be defined as an individual state of well-being and is influenced by social interactions, physical, environmental and psychological factors. Studies have shown associations between coparenting and the mental health of fathers and mothers. Therefore, this research aimed to understand the relationships between coparenting and positive mental health, as well as the influence of sociodemographic factors on these constructs, of fathers and mothers with children between three and eleven years old. This is a cross-sectional survey with a quantitative design that was carried out using a sociodemographic questionnaire, the coparental relationship scale and the positive mental health scale. 502 Brazilian mothers and fathers participated. Statistical analyzes were performed that showed that married participants had higher scores in coparenting agreement, division of labor, coparenting support and acknowledgment of the partner's parenting. Divorced participants scored higher on coparental sabotage. Regarding the positive mental health dimensions, married participants had higher emotional well-being scores. Participants who had higher levels of education had higher averages in the dimensions of coparental agreement, division of labor and in the dimension of social well-being. In addition, the positive dimensions of coparenting showed correlations with the dimensions of positive mental health, and the negative dimensions of coparenting showed inverse correlations with the dimensions of positive mental health. Thus, it is concluded that having a positive coparenting relationship is associated with better mental health outcomes for fathers and mothers.
