Abstract: The Brazilian electricity sector currently faces potential supply crises due to government shortcomings in energy planning, delays in constructing large facilities, and an overwhelming reliance on a single energy source in the national mix. In this scenario, energy efficiency measures provide a favorable option to guarantee a more dependable and expeditious electricity supply while saving resources, decreasing reliance on energy imports, curbing pollution, and deferring the requirement for the expansion of the energy system. The prioritization of these measures ought to focus on the ones that exhibit the most significant technical and economic feasibility for the electrical system. In the most developed and industrialized countries, government energy efficiency programs prioritize industries. However, such programs are lacking in Brazil. While the industrial sector in the country is the largest consumer of electricity with significant potential for improving its energy efficiency, there exists no long-term public policy aimed at promoting the efficient use of energy in industrial facilities. The purpose of this study is to assess the influence of industrial energy efficiency initiatives on the Brazilian power system and the targets set forth in the 2030 National Energy Plan. A quantitative and exploratory investigation was performed through literature and document review. The theoretical framework encompasses topics such as domestic and international energy efficiency and energy planning. A survey and analysis of energy efficiency projects carried out under the Energy Efficiency Program of the National Electric Energy Agency between 2009 and 2019 found that the adopted energy efficiency actions in Brazil have not targeted areas with the highest potential for energy efficiency. The results obtained from the data analysis performed clearly indicate this. The analyses demonstrate the significant potential for energy efficiency measures in the industrial sector to enhance Brazil's energy efficiency outcomes. It is possible for the country, through rational energy consumption practices, to become one of the nations at the forefront of energy efficiency in the future.
